PHP SECURITY ALERT: CVE-2026-115560 — POTENTIAL REMOTE CODE EXECUTION
Disclosure Date: October 23, 2026
Advisory Updated: October 28, 2026
Category: Server Security
Severity: Potentially High — PHP official CVSS pending
Affected Software: PHP with specific session-handling configurations
CVE: CVE-2026-115560
Status: Publicly disclosed — mitigation available
IMPORTANT FOR CWP7 ADMINISTRATORS
A new PHP security vulnerability has been disclosed that may expose certain hosting environments to remote code execution (RCE).
Although CVE-2026-115560 is not a vulnerability in Control Web Panel itself, administrators running CWP7 with Apache, Nginx and PHP-FPM should review their PHP configurations.
The vulnerability is separate from the recently disclosed PHP2Shell issues, CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619.
The PHP Security Team recommends disabling PHP session upload progress as a temporary mitigation.
1. SECURITY INCIDENT OVERVIEW
On October 23, 2026, the PHP Security Team published an informational advisory concerning a potentially dangerous interaction between PHP session serialization and the session upload-progress feature.
Under a specific combination of PHP settings and application behavior, specially crafted requests may lead to unsafe session-data interpretation and potentially remote code execution.
This vulnerability is particularly relevant to hosting environments where multiple websites use different PHP versions, application frameworks or custom session configurations.
However, the vulnerable combination is unusual, and not every PHP-powered website is exposed.
Key facts:
2. HOW THE VULNERABILITY WORKS
According to the PHP Security Team, three conditions must occur together.
Condition 1: Non-default session serializer
The PHP configuration uses one of the following session serialization handlers:
or
Condition 2: Application changes the serializer
Application code subsequently changes the session serializer to "php" at runtime using ini_set(), before calling session_start().
Condition 3: Session upload progress is enabled
The following configuration remains enabled:
When these conditions occur together, PHP may interpret session data using an incompatible serialization format.
This can potentially lead to object injection and remote code execution, depending on the application's available classes and code paths.
IMPORTANT:
Applications that never change their session serialization handler at runtime do not meet the vulnerable configuration described in PHP's advisory.
This is a narrowly conditional PHP vulnerability, not a universal PHP-FPM compromise.
3. WHICH CWP7 SERVERS MAY BE AFFECTED?
Potentially affected hosting environments include:
Administrators should examine the effective configuration of each web-serving PHP runtime rather than relying exclusively on the PHP CLI version.
PATCH STATUS
The PHP project announced this vulnerability separately from the October 21 emergency PHP2Shell fixes.
The earlier security releases, including PHP 8.2.35, 8.3.36, 8.4.27 and 8.5.12, must not be treated as proof that CVE-2026-115560 is fixed.
At the time of this advisory, PHP planned to provide a full security advisory and fix through its next regular release cycle.
Administrators should monitor subsequent PHP releases for confirmed fixes.
4. KNOWN INDICATORS OF COMPROMISE
At the time of this publication, no confirmed widespread exploitation campaign, attacker IP list or campaign-specific malware hashes had been established for CVE-2026-115560.
Nevertheless, administrators should investigate suspicious activity involving:
Important: These are general investigation indicators. None individually proves that CVE-2026-115560 was exploited.
A security investigation should correlate application logs, web-server activity, file changes and process behavior before determining whether a compromise occurred.
5. SAFE CWP7 SERVER INVESTIGATION
The following SSH commands perform preliminary read-only checks.
They do not modify website files, restart services or change server security settings.
Step 1 — Identify the server and PHP CLI version
Step 2 — Check PHP session configuration files
Step 3 — Find website-specific overrides
Step 4 — Identify running PHP-FPM services
Step 5 — Check for unusual PHP errors
IMPORTANT NOTES
6. RECOMMENDED SECURITY MITIGATION
The PHP Security Team recommends disabling the session upload-progress feature until the vulnerability has been addressed in a regular PHP security release.
The recommended configuration is:
Before applying this change:
The mitigation must take effect before PHP processes incoming upload requests. Do not rely on changing this directive with application-level ini_set().
Disabling this feature prevents PHP's session-based upload-progress tracking. Ordinary PHP file uploads should continue functioning.
IMPORTANT:
This mitigation does not replace security updates for CVE-2026-109618 or CVE-2026-109619.
Administrators should continue maintaining supported PHP versions and applying verified vendor security patches.

- Do not remove suspicious files before preserving evidence.
6. RECOMMENDED SECURITY MITIGATION
The PHP Security Team recommends disabling the session upload-progress feature until the vulnerability has been addressed in a regular PHP security release.
The recommended configuration is:
session.upload_progress.enabled = 0Before applying this change:
- Verify whether any hosted application requires PHP session upload-progress tracking.
- Identify the actual PHP configuration used by each website.
- Back up the affected configuration files.
- Apply the setting in the appropriate server-level PHP configuration.
- Restart or replace the affected PHP workers in a controlled manner.
- Verify that the setting is active in the web-serving PHP runtime.
- Confirm that hosted websites continue functioning correctly.
